How the workspace works

  • Orbit by dragging with the middle mouse button, or pick Orbit and drag. Shift-middle-drag pans.
  • Scroll to zoom, or pick Zoom and drag up and down. Zoom Extents frames the whole model.
  • Press a single letter to switch tools — the shortcut map below lists them all.
  • While a drawing operation is running, just start typing a number: it goes straight into the measurements box. Press Enter to apply it, Escape to cancel.
  • Arrow keys lock movement to the red, green or blue axis. Press them again to release the lock.
  • On a trackpad, two-finger scroll zooms and a click-drag with a navigation tool orbits or pans.
  • Modelling needs a mouse or trackpad and a laptop or desktop screen. On a phone you can browse the learning path and the tool reference.

These are this app's defaults. SketchUp lets you remap its own shortcuts, so the two sets are not identical.

Accessibility

  • Menus, toolbars, panels and the lesson checklist are reachable with Tab and Enter, and every control shows a visible focus ring.
  • The axes are labelled X, Y and Z in the model, so colour is never the only cue.
  • Every error states what is wrong and what to do next; nothing is only announced by colour.
  • The 3D viewport itself is a spatial canvas and cannot be read by a screen reader. Lesson instructions, checklists, feedback and the tool reference are all plain text and are fully readable.
  • 3D drawing needs a browser with WebGL. Checking this browser…

About

Skychup Demystified is an independent learning application. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to SketchUp or Trimble. Interface artwork and icons here are original. Tool names and shortcuts follow common 3D-modelling usage so the habits transfer, but this app is not a copy of any vendor's product and does not open or save native SketchUp files.
